Two accounts of the same CLI, side by side
A Team seat and a personal Max plan. Two ChatGPT accounts. One client's Google account and your own. Hypervibe profiles give each login of a CLI its own isolated home, so both run at once on the same board without signing out.
Why two logins of one CLI
- Work and personal. A Team or Enterprise seat for the day job and a personal Max or Pro plan for your own projects, both Claude Code, both on the same Mac.
- Client separation. Consultants who bill usage per client keep one account per client and need them side by side, not switched.
- Two ChatGPT or Google accounts. The same applies to Codex and Gemini CLI, or to any CLI that signs in with an account.
Logging out and back in works, and destroys the flow: the sessions you were in are tied to the account, the browser round trip takes a minute, and you do it several times a day.
How profiles work in Hypervibe
Every CLI in Hypervibe can have several profiles. Each profile gets an isolated home directory, so the CLI sees its own configuration, its own login and its own session history, and never the other profile's. When you spawn a console you pick the profile, and two consoles of the same CLI under different profiles run side by side on the same board.
- Sessions and resume stay per profile. A console relaunched on reopen resumes the conversation of the account it belongs to.
- Same repo, two accounts. Both consoles can point at the same repository. If both write, put each one in its own git worktree, exactly as with any two parallel agents.
- No pooling, no rotation. A console is signed in as one of your accounts and stays that way. Hypervibe does not merge limits, switch accounts behind your back or share credentials between consoles.
Whether you may hold several accounts, and how each plan may be used, is defined by Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and the other vendors, not by Hypervibe. Profiles are a convenience for accounts you are entitled to use. Each account keeps its own usage limits; nothing here adds capacity.
Doing it by hand
The same idea works without Hypervibe, with a little shell work per CLI.
Claude Code
Claude Code reads CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR to move its configuration and session storage off ~/.claude. Give each account its own directory and start the CLI with the variable set:
CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=~/.claude-work claude -n api-cleanup
CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=~/.claude-personal claude -n side-project
Two shell aliases make it permanent. Sessions started under one directory resume under that same directory.
Any CLI
The general trick is a separate HOME, which is what a profile is under the hood:
HOME=~/homes/work codex
HOME=~/homes/personal gemini
Two caveats. A different HOME also changes where the shell finds its own configuration, your git identity and anything else that lives in the home directory, so set up those files in the new home too. And on macOS some CLIs keep the login in the system Keychain rather than in the home directory; test it once, by signing in under the second home and confirming the first is still signed in.
Questions people ask
Do usage limits combine across profiles?
No. Each account has the limits of its own plan, and each profile is one account. Hypervibe shows a usage pill per CLI so you can see where each one stands, but it does not add or pool anything.
Can two profiles work on the same repository?
Yes. They are two independent consoles. If both edit files, give each its own git worktree so their changes do not collide.
Does the other profile see my sessions?
No. Sessions, configuration and login live in the profile's own home directory. Resume on reopen brings back the right conversation for the right account.
Is this allowed?
That depends on each provider's terms for the plans you hold. Hypervibe does not share, rotate or pool accounts; it runs each console as one signed-in user, the same way a second terminal window would.
Two accounts, side by side
Spawn a console under each profile and keep both conversations, both logins and both usage figures apart, on one board.
